A sense of belonging will be fostered by mutual relationships of support and growth as well as living in a safe, healthy home environment where opportunities for personal and spiritual growth are readily available. Peace of Heart Community encourages an atmosphere of communication where all voices are expressed and validated to promote positive change.
As part of this strategy, we will:
Presume competence.
Provide ample opportunities to be in nature.
Foster a sense of belonging through relationships and nurturing spiritual growth.
Offer local healthy food, including that from our own garden.
Communication contributes to belonging and Peace of Heart Community encourages an atmosphere of communication where all voices are expressed and validated to promote positive change.
Behavior
We will achieve a reduction in undesirable behavior by:
Providing behavior focused services that ensure the appropriate supports are put into action.
Implementing behavior plans and behavior monitoring that lead to successful charting and reduction in undesirable behaviors.
Teaching replacement behaviors.
Undesirable behavior can be a direct result of anxiety from the inability to speak and communicate.
As part of our program we will support best practices in typing and teaching so that every resident has a voice.
Vocation
We will employ a vocational coach to break down chores and vocational skills into small increments that can be easily repeated so that:
Staff can be easily taught
Skills can be generalized to new settings
Skills will include, but are not limited to:
Household Chores
Cooking
Farming & Gardening
Animal Care
Communication
Presumed Competence in all aspects of life and support best practices in typing and teaching so each resident has a voice.
Education
Upon request, we will give tours or speak at engagements in our community about our program including presumed competence and sustainable gardening. Hosting fundraising events will also give us a platform to educate the community on who we are and the best practices to enhance the lives of those living with autism. Internally, we will offer educational enrichment through workshops, book clubs, typing training, and opportunities for spiritual growth while constantly offering support in life skills and vocational skills training.
